About the class:

Fun Beginner Class for Ages 12+

Channel your inner pop star while having fun and getting in a sweat.

The 1.5 Hour Class begins with a warm-up soundtracked to our featured artist for the evening. Expect moves that progressively gets your heart pumping and brain working including isolations, pliés, stretching, abs, and pushup variations.

After warm-up we’ll do some across the floor to work on some of the moving steps within our choreography and then on to the center of the floor for the choreography. You’ll learn the choreography to the entire featured song. Moves are modeled after what the backup dancer would be doing on stage.

This is the perfect class to bring a friend, your 12+ daughter or son, sister, mom, etc. to. The vision is to be able to turn on the playlist while you’re baking, wrapping gifts, or cleaning the house for the holidays and run fun choreography while you’re getting ready for the holidays.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 3RD BRUNO MARS – 24K

The inspiration behind the class, Bruno Mars backup dancers are everything. I love their simple movements and sharp, but smooth style. This is a fun song that you’ll be able to pull pieces of the choreography to do when you’re in the car and it comes on the radio or while cleaning the dishes.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 10TH QUEEN – DON’T STOP ME NOW

If you’ve watched the trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody you’ll know that Freddy Mercury had an incredible stage presence and style of movement. Let’s try to bring that out in a song that must be a motivator – it’s in countless commercials.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 17TH ABBA – DANCING QUEEN

Mama Mia 2 was such a joy to watch. I’m ending the holiday series with a punch of color and a nod to Colin Firth dancing on the top of the boat coming into dock.

About your class instructor:

I did an exercise a couple years back where I wrote down a list of anything and everything I’d want to “be” as a career. Some things were a travel vlogger, an almond milk juicer, and a vacuum lines maker — on the top of the list was a background dancer for Bruno Mars. While I can’t make that happen, I can do the second best thing- pretend to be his background dancer with all of you!

I’ve studied dance here at TJ Dance (and taught while in college), at Bellevue College, University of Washington, and a number of studios in the greater Seattle area along with workshops and competitions. I have coached our local drill team and have loved helping young women explore dance and movement through the dance/drill community.

I look forward to having you in my class!
