3-4 yr old, Creative Movement/Pre-Ballet

Creative Movement introduces the child to moving with the music, using both children’s songs and classical music. Locomotor actions (walk, run, jump, turn, slow, fast) and being part of a group activity will be taught in the class.  This requires the child to  be able to separate from the parent, use listening skills and follow the teachers directions. Pretend play and imagination will be integral parts of this class. Children will be introduced to classical ballet music, ballet stories, positions of the feet and arms, and learn how to plie and tendu. Proper ballet slippers required, along with dance attire (no jeans, coveralls, or long play dresses). Dress up (provided by the teacher) will be used on occasion. A performance piece will be taught, along with the opening number, to be performed in the June dance recital.

This class focuses on listening skills, memory development, balance, and creative dance. Occasionally tumbling will be added. Proper ballet shoes are required. Dancers will perform one dance and participate in the group opening number in the June dance recital.

Class time will be divided into teaching ballet for the first 25 minutes of class, with the rest for tap dancing. Ballet instruction will include barre work (plies, tendus, passe, arabesque) and learning ballet positions. Tap will use the Al Gilbert graded technique, learning shuffles, ball change and flaps, along with across the floor moves. Both ballet and tap shoes required. Dancers will be taught one dance and participate in the group opening number in the June dance recital. An in-house dance will also be taught.

This class is from 4:30-5:15pm on Thursdays and is for elementary school age children from all backgrounds of dance. We welcome all skill levels whether you have never danced before or are just interested in learning about different types of dancing, we welcome you! In this class, we will explore all forms of dance from many different continents and countries. Every month we will focus on a different continent with every class being a different country within that continent. For recital, we plan on mixing them all together and showing the audience what we have learned throughout the year. Our hope for this class is that we can help instill confidence and the love of dance while learning a little along the way. Come join us as we “Dance Around the World!”

An additional dance will be taught to perform for an in-house performance at the end of the year.

This class will teach and improve a dancer’s rhythm and tempo combining sound and movement to music to create “dance”.  One dance will be performed in the June recital, and this class will participate in the group Finale number.

Belly Dance

This belly dance class is for beginning and intermediate students. Expect to have lots of fun and laughter while you sweat and learn to move your body in new ways. This year, we will learn at least two different styles of dance and choreographies. We (as a group) may choose to do one or both dances for our recital in June.
